Meet Maano: Finding Strength Through Change
At Frederick Fitness, we believe every trainer brings something unique to the team. Today, we’d like you to meet Maano, whose journey from Namibia to Canada has shaped not only who she is, but how she coaches.
My name is Maano—it means gift in my home language. A little over a year ago, I moved to Canada from Namibia, in the southern part of Africa, and reunited with my mom after nearly 15 years apart.
Starting fresh in a new country wasn’t easy. Everything was unfamiliar—new people, a new culture, and no roadmap. But one thing stayed the same: my love for pushing my body and mind to new levels. The gym quickly became my anchor. It was where I learned that strength isn’t just about building muscle. It’s about consistency, mindset, and showing up for yourself, even on the tough days.
For me, fitness has never been just about weights, treadmills, or sets and reps. It’s about growth, discipline, and resilience. I wasn’t always the most confident person, but through sports and training, I discovered how to believe in myself—even when life threw challenges my way.
That’s why I became a personal trainer. My goal isn’t just to help people get in shape. I want my clients to feel proud of themselves, to realize how strong they really are, and to enjoy the process along the way. Whether it’s your first time stepping into a gym, or you’ve been training for years, I believe there’s always a next level waiting for you.
During my practicum with Justin at Frederick Fitness, I not only gained knowledge, but I also discovered what it truly means to be a great trainer. His mentorship showed me that fitness is more than just workouts—it’s about building trust, motivating people, and celebrating every step of progress.
Q&A with Maano
Q: What inspires you most about being a trainer?
A: It’s seeing someone realize they’re stronger than they thought. That spark of pride when a client lifts a weight they never imagined, or finishes a workout they thought would crush them.
Q: What’s one piece of advice you give every client?
A: Don’t chase perfection—chase consistency. It’s not about doing everything “right” all the time, it’s about showing up day after day.
Q: Do you have a favorite type of training?
A: I love plyometric training. It’s high tempo, and it challenges both the body and the mind. I love pushing my body to the limit and seeing what I’m capable of.
Q: What’s your go-to way to recharge outside the gym?
A: My go to chill day is good music, good food, and a good book.
